As I write this, Matt and I are still recovering from the Strictly Come Dancing voting scandal.  What was all that about?  I do feel slightly cheated after voting for Rachel and Vincent and making Matt do the same. Straight after Strictly I had to drop Matthew into town for the football team's Christmas drinking session.  I kindly offered to give Danny Kyle a lift in my brand new car.  He got in and promptly dropped his guts so badly that we had to drive through Teg Down with our heads out of the window, like one of those dogs you see on the motorway with their ears flapping.  Charming.

It's largely gone quiet on the wedding planning front in the last few weeks.  We did however try to write a table plan on Friday night with Matt's mum.  What a nightmare that was.  We had the old 'do you invite kids or not?' dilemma.  Personally I'd like to invite everyone's children but when you're slightly older like we are, lots of your friends and family have children and we could end up with more children than adults.  And I guess some people might prefer not to bring their kids with them and have a day off instead.  I'm sure our guests will understand whatever we decide to do (that's a hint!) but we've got ourselves in bit of a tiz about it anyway.

We've finally managed to do all our Christmas shopping - just got to wrap it all up now.  Much as I love the run up to Christmas, I can never quite recapture that feeling of total and utter excitement that you used to have as a kid.  I can remember the whole month before Christmas at school would be devoted to Christmas activities like making paper-chains, although I don't remember ever doing a nativity play at my school.  Matt reckons he was one of the three wise men in his school nativity - how ironic!  I can also remember going to bed on Christmas Eve and literally shaking with excitement. Then waking up at some ridiculously early hour to see what's in Santa's sack.  And in those days there would've been absolutely no innuendo in that sentence I've just written.  Ah, the innocence of youth.

Matt experiencing the Smith Christmas?

Matt experiencing the Smith Christmas?

In my family, we've been going to a lovely cottage in Devon every Christmas for the last 18 or so years.  So last year was the first time I've not spent Christmas day with my parents as I just love going to Devon so much.  The only down-side is my Uncle Kenny's flatulence problem - he could rival Danny Kyle after a few sprouts!  We have a tradition that directly after dinner, before the Christmas pudding is brought in, we have a massive fight with empty party-poppers.  It usually becomes boys v girls and generally ends when my dad gets a bit carried away and nearly knocks someone out with one of his super-human throws.  A few year's ago, my sister's dog Ben got a bit over-excited during the party-popper fight and ended up trying to hump my brother!  Matt's never experienced Christmas 'Smith-style' but this year mum and dad are having an early Christmas day next Saturday at my Aunty Jenny and Uncle Kenny's house when 14 of us will get together.
I'm a bit worried about what Matt will make of it all though, particularly as I'm sure Ben's a bit too fond of him!
